ALOS-3(Advanced Land Observing Satellite-3/DAICHI-3) is a successor of the optical mission of ALOS, "DAICHI". ALOS-3 will achieve improved ground resolution (80 cm) while observing a wide-swath (70 km) by a larger sensor with higher performance compared to ALOS, and continuously observe not only Japan but also global land areas.
The sensor will continuously observe global coverage data and observation data acquired by ALOS-3 is expected to be useful in various fields such as disaster prevention & preparation activities both in peaceful time and emergency situation, for national security in broad sense.
The 80 cm ground resolution of ALOS-3 data enables to detect colapsed buildings and road blockage situation more clearly than the predeccessor ALOS (Ground resolution 2.5 m), and it is possibe to quicklly detect the detail damage situation by compareing the images before and after the disater. Furthermore, observation data acquired by ALOS-3 is expected to be utilized in many fields not only to maintain and update high accuracy geospatial information data in developing countiries, but also to study environmental protection of vegetation and coastal areas using various observation bands.
Under the contract of JAXA who aims to expect the utilization of vitality of the private firm, PASCO Corporation develops ground system, operates satellite and distributes satellite imagery of ALOS-3 in order to conduct the business consistently.

Characteristics of ALOS-3

1. Implement 80 cm ground resolution with 70km wide swath

2. Characteristic 2 bands

  • ALOS-3 newly equips 2 characteristic bands of the wave length suitable to monitor water area (coastal) and vegetation (Red edge)
  • It enables to utilize data in wide areas both in actual usage and fields of study

3. Continuously observe land area nationwide and archive the data images

  • In accordance with basic observation mode, we will collect multiple images of archive data global basis per year
  • By utilizing accumulated archive data, it is possible to conduct analysis of monitoring and change detections in more detail.

Sample images of ALOS-3

The images below are created ALOS-3 pan sharpened samples of 80 cm resolution in accordance with the system specification.
Note: They don’t have same observation ranges and geometric information of ALOS-3

※The resolution of images are lower than real data as they are thumbnail images.
